With Trimble’s HoloLens Hard Hat, Mixed Reality Gets Real on Construction Sites [Video]
Blog Post
One of the major frustrations in the construction business can be the difference between how the project looks on plans and what builders onsite can see for themselves. Trimble and Microsoft have partnered to create a new technology tool that changes the way construction professionals design, build, and operate. It’s based on mixed reality, and it merges real and virtual worlds using immersive, holographic technology.
In terms of hardware, Trimble has merged Microsoft’s HoloLens mixed reality glasses with an industry-standard hard hat. The software is Trimble Connect for HoloLens, which combines 3D models from trade partners and precisely aligns them as holographic data visible in the glasses on a 1:1 scale. This enables workers to see their models overlaid in the onsite physical environment, providing more precise collaboration and project coordination.
